We have parallel accounts --on the one hand 1 Sam 13-31, 2 Sam, 1 Kings1-11 and on the other hand, Ezra, Nehemiah, and 1-2 Chronicles. What can we learn from comparing these parallels? What did you think was the most important difference (or similarity)?
The question of David's status as legendary or real is an important one for those who consider biblical history as literal. What evidence is there for David's real existence and what evidence is there, on the other hand, that David may be a legendary figure (like King Arthur). What do you think?
As the "anointed one", God promises the Davidic throne will be secure forever. "your throne will be established permanently." Israel continues to pray for the Messiah, the Davidic king who will restore Israel to the glory days of the Kingdom of God (as in David's rule). Christians, of course, believe that Jesus was this leader and trace his lineage back to David. Putting the Christian argument aside, and staying where we are historically in the story, let's talk about this 'royal covenant' perhaps comparing it to previous covenants.
Define and discuss (1) Kingdom of God (2) Son of God (3) wisdom
